The Densus church is located in a small village, in the Judet of Hunedoara. At the entrance you will find a panel with information about the church, but it is only in Romanian. So let me tell you a little bit in our language …

The church is dedicated to St. Nicolas and happens to be one of the oldest stone churches in Romania. It was built in the late 13th century and is similar in many respects to the classical Roman architecture. Thus some claim it was built on the ruins of a Roman temple, which is denied by others.

The building consists of a main compartment resembling Byzantine architecture topped by a faux bell tower, which is actually a small tower. Inside, there are frescoes dating from the XV and which are erased as time passed by. A small cemetery is also located in the chamber. It is nice to see that everywhere in Romania, there is something to explore.
